Singapore, US ink MOU on cybersecurity
cybersecurityUS

The United States and Singapore on Tuesday (Aug 2) signed a cybersecurity Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to formalise their commitment to work together in building a secure and resilient cyberspace through cybersecurity cooperation.

The MOU was signed at Blair House by Mr David Koh, chief executive of the Cyber Security Agency of Singapore (CSA), and Ms Suzanne Spaulding, Under Secretary for the National Protection and Programs Directorate (NPPD) at the Department of Homeland Security (DHS). US ambassador to Singapore Kirk Wagar and Singapore’s ambassador to the US Ashok Kumar Mirpuri witnessed the signing.

The agreement covers cooperation in key areas including regular CERT-CERT information exchanges and sharing of best practices, coordination in cyber-incident response and sharing of best practices on critical information infrastructure protection, cybersecurity trends and practices, said CSA in a news release. Both sides also committed to conduct joint cybersecurity exercises and collaborate on regional cyber-capacity building and cybersecurity awareness building activities.

Said Mr Koh: “Considering the interdependence in cyberspace between Singapore and the US, the borderless nature of transboundary cyberattacks would have a significant impact on both countries’ critical information infrastructures. This MOU will pave the way towards a secure and resilient cyberspace, and we look forward to working together with the US to strengthen cybersecurity cooperation between our countries.”
